In the interactive installation "Evolution of a Hybrid", Koen Vanmechelen combines art (chicken) and science (DNA) to clarify his perspective on the evolution of nature, man and society. Through the concept of hybridity. The world is a hybrid container, and human cultures are not unlike the world. Also art is and should be hybrid, claims the artist. He invites the visitor to be part of this installation and to answer this question; What does hybridity mean to you?

From September 26 till September 28, the electronic arts take over the Centre for Fine Arts for the second edition of the BOZAR ELECTRONIC ARTS FESTIVAL, three days and nights devoted to electronic culture. Whether in music, audio-visual installations, performances, or workshops, the festival aims to introduce visitors to the artists who are making things happen in these disciplines today. Besides the music side of BEAF featuring a.o. Moderat, Jon Hopkins and Regis, Flemish research institute iMinds presents new digital sculptures by Koen Vanmechelen as well as sound installations created by the AXO platform. In collaboration with Zebrastraat (Ghent), the Horta hall will be occupied by the Cycloïd-Å, a gigantic sound installation of the Swiss duo and Michel Dcosterd.
For the latest Art&d project of iMinds, Vanmechelen teamed up with scientist from the KULeuven and developed the Instance Project; a data visualization project with the data of the CC®P . After an installation at the biennial of Venice earlier this year, a first result from this collaboration is on view during BEAF13. The artist presents his multimedia installation Evolution of a Hybrid; a symbiotic container and an active laboratory where art meets science.
